The Presence of Spenser in Sonnets 85 and 86

In a post dated April 18,  2020 I put forward an argument that Edmund Spenser was probably the sole rival poet (or, at the least, a major part of a composite rival poet figure) referred to in Shakespeare’s Sonnets 85 and 86. However, I subsequently reconsidered some of the details and conclusions in that post, and as a result deleted the post entirely. I am currently in the process of writing an updated version.
